St Nicholas Church

Bishopwearmouth, Sunderland

This Parish Church exists to proclaim the Love of God and to be a sign of His Kingdom in the World

For hundreds of years people have turned to the Church at important times in life - the birth of a child, the marriage of a couple or the death of a loved one. Even if you are not a regular worshipper, something instinctive draws you to the Church at these times and we welcome your call if you would like to discuss these events with us.

It is wonderful that you are thinking about Baptism.

We have a friendly, contemporary Baptism service involving the children in your group, at 12.30pm every Sunday (except during August & December)

And of course, we welcome any adults who feel that the time has come to make this timeless declaration of your faith

Just phone Revd Steph 522 6444 for more details and to discuss your enquiry

If you are ready to enter into a life long commitment to each other in marriage we would love to hear from you.

A Church wedding links your love for each other to God’s love for you and you can be married at St Nicholas if you are a member of our community,  live in the parish or have some other link recognised in law.

You don’t have to be baptised or a practising Christian and it is often possible for couples where either or both partners have been divorced to marry at St Nicholas

Bereavement is difficult and we want to do all we can to help you. Working with local Funeral Directors, we can conduct a Christian funeral service either at St Nicholas Church or at a Crematorium.

You would normally contact your funeral director who will call us, but please do feel free to call us beforehand if you prefer.
